Kiran is currently a journalist with Al Jazeera English, based in Doha, Qatar. In this role, she produces high-impact stories in the Middle East, Asia, and beyond, with a focus on politics, global affairs, and geopolitics for the 24-hour international news network’s global audience. She collaborates with a diverse international team to provide comprehensive coverage of breaking news events and emerging global stories.

Before relocating to the Middle East, Kiran spent seven years reporting in New York City,  one of the world’s most competitive media markets. As a morning show reporter at Pix11 News, she became known for her rapid breaking news coverage across the tri-state area. Kiran also served as an anchor for Pix11+, the station’s streaming newscast. Prior to joining Pix11, she was a reporter at CBS New York, where she also filled in as a correspondent for CBS Newspath, the network’s affiliate news service.

Throughout her time in New York, Kiran covered high-profile stories including former president Donald Trump’s hush money trial, the Luigi Mangione case, the 2024 and 2020 presidential elections, and the ongoing migrant crisis. She also reported on the ground during the COVID-19 pandemic and the Black Lives Matter protests. During her career, Kiran has earned a reputation for consistently delivering exclusive stories. She has several New York Emmy award nominations, including a win with the CBS New York team for its live coverage of an active shooter in Jersey City, New Jersey.

To expand her knowledge base, Kiran received her Master of Arts in Economics and Business Reporting from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. This led her to Bloomberg News, where she was a member of the Oil Trading Americas team, reporting on the fluctuating price of oil.

Kiran began her journalism career in Canada where she was a reporter in five cities across the country.  Most recently, she was a breaking news reporter for CP24, Canada’s #1 news station. While at 24, she reported on several high-profile stories, including the Toronto Danforth terror attack and the Ontario provincial election.

Kiran has also worked for Canada’s top two broadcasters, CTV News and CBC News. During her tenure at CTV News, Kiran served as a correspondent for CTV News Channel and a national digital producer for CTVNews.ca. In this joint role, she helped oversee the coverage of national events for the network’s digital, social and mobile platforms, guiding and managing a team of journalists to develop and execute long-term content strategies. Kiran decided how to cover stories based on SEO metrics, social media traffic, and audience engagement numbers. She tailored stories for digital audiences by embedding images, video, infographics, and audio to enhance audience engagement and deepen impact. For CTV News Channel, Kiran reported live in studio on stories like the 2016 U.S. presidential election, the Turkey coup, and multiple international terror attacks.

At CBC News, Kiran was a reporter in multiple Canadian cities, including Toronto, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, and Regina. Early on, she learned how to report for television, radio, and the web and how to shoot and edit her own work.

During her time at the CBC, she covered a wide range of stories, specific to each community in which she worked. They included crime and culture in Toronto and real estate and the environment in Vancouver. In Winnipeg where Kiran was born and raised, she investigated issues close to her heart including Missing and Murdered Indigenous women, sex selective abortions, the city’s opioid crisis and welfare issues for children in government care.

Kiran holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Winnipeg and a journalism diploma from Red River College. Kiran is fluent in English, French, and Punjabi and conversational in Hindi.

Kiran is a passionate traveler, having spent time visiting the Middle East, Asia, East Africa, South America, Central America, Europe, and Australia, among other places. She believes her travel experiences have broadened her worldview, informed her reporting, and helped her connect with people from various regions of the globe.

Hailing from a large extended Indian family in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Kiran is one of five siblings and the daughter of immigrants from Punjab, India. Traveling to India at a young age sparked her lifelong curiosity about diverse cultures, a passion that continues to drive her work today.

In 2019, Kiran traveled across India to investigate the country’s mental health crisis. She visited New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore and multiple small towns and villages during her cross-country trip. Her extensive reporting that detailed the scope of the issue was published both in the Guardian as well as in a well-respected Indian magazine, the Caravan.
